SAVING MEMORY Collecting archives

Bophana Center seeks to make available a wide array of elements from the cultural history of Cambodia. To accomplish this, a world-wide effort to assemble pertinent material must be undertaken. This is an ambitious project in which the archival material will be carefully sorted and pertinent items will be identified, evaluated, viewed and then digitized. This work has already begun in France and in Cambodia, and further research is projected for Vietnam, the United States and Germany. The Center is steadily enriching its archival collection with new discoveries.
The Audiovisual Resource Center already possesses varied documentary material including ancient and modern elements. All subjects are represented in its archives, history, art, folk traditions, culture, public health, and even environmental concerns, religion and politics... In order to offer the most complete information possible, the Center disposes of different media: video, audio, photography and the written word.
The audiovisual archives already assembled include fiction, documentary films, journalism, televised news coverage, up-to-date news ... These documents come from the television networks, radio stations, independent producers, public institutions (ministries and NGOs) and from individuals. Agreements have been reached with their representatives so that the Center may lawfully permit consultation of their documents. The Center is also producing its own documents which are available to the public. |
